Hidden gems: revitalizing monotonicity results for posynomial optimization over lp-balls
In this mini-course, we will address (value and also iterates) convergence in iterative methods for a class of optimization problems highly relevant to applications. We will partly revisit quite old but apparently rarely remembered classical results, currently overshadowed with methods highly popular in machine learning. On our way, we will prove the basic Rogers/Hoelder/Riesz inequality in two lines, characterize the minimal Hoelder gap, relate convexity to growth transformations and the Scheuer/Mandel inequality in population genetics, and finally, time permitting, have a short look at extensions and applications.
