But they expose farmers to additional risk from external factors such as climate. We explore the role of relative performance payments as a tool for mitigating common risks, and thereby reducing the cost of results-based payments. To accurately model species abundance, we depart from the standard LEN model by assuming that outcomes follow a negative-binomial distribution, and that shocks complement farmers’ efforts. We find that complementarity provides an additional role for relative performance payments: by decreasing payments in good years, they increase farmer’s marginal utility exactly when efforts matters the most, thereby provide additional incentives for conservation. We illustrate our results by deriving the optimal relative-performance scheme for Gray Partridge conservation in the Aller region in Germany, and comparing it to the own results-based scheme.

October 15 (Thursday) 10:00-11:00, room E.118.2 (main building, 1st floor) Christopher Stapenhurst (Brandenburg University of Technology, Germany) Relative performance pay under multiplicative common shocks, with an application to farmland bird conservation Results-based payments for ecosystem services can resolve adverse selection Continue Reading …

[1

post-1202","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized
["GET
